Blog 1: Introduction

To start off with my name is Jessica Shepard and I am 18 years old.  I was born in Fremont, Nebraska where I lived until the conclusion of 5th grade.  After the 5th grade my dad got a job in Lincoln where my family moved to and lived for 5 years or until the end of my sophomore year of high school.  Halfway through my sophomore year my dad accepted his dream job back in Fremont as the superintendent of the Fremont Public School’s school district, so following my sophomore year I moved back to Fremont to finish out my high school career.
Now that you know about where all I have lived let me tell you a bit about my family.  I have a large family.  I have one older sister, one older brother, and three younger sisters.   My older sister, Taylor is 22 years old and just graduated from Midland University where she played basketball.  Taylor will be teaching mathematics at Elkhorn South next year.  Then comes the only boy my brother Clayton.  Clay is 20 years old about to turn 21 this summer, he also attends Midland University where he plays basketball and is majoring in secondary math teaching.  Then next in order is me, you will here plenty about me in later paragraphs.  After me is my younger sister Samantha who is 15.  Sam plays basketball at Fremont High School on the varsity team where we got to play together this year.  Next is Emma who is 13, Emma is a lot like me in terms of personality, she also plays basketball and is going into the 8th grade.  Last is the baby of the family Sarah.  She is 11 years old plays, plays basketball, and is going into the 6th grade.  Then there is the heroes, my dad and mom, Mark and Kim who have been married 24 years!  My family is very close knit and does a lot together.  Enough about my family, time to tell you about me.
There is a lot to know about me but we will just throw a few things out there for now.  First off I am pretty tall for a girl I am 6’4 or 76 inches.  Next off you will find there a few things that are really important to me.  My faith is the base of my life and everything in my life.  Next would be my family they mean the world to me, my friends are important to me too.  School is an important part of my life that I embrace.  And basketball is a very large part of my life, and the thing that has gotten me to this class right now.  All of these things are things that I chose to right about.  Now that we know about me as a person lets talk about me as a writer.
We write everyday in school but I don’t think that tells you much about how a person likes to write.  I write to express myself, I write to relieve stress, and often times I write to remember.  I used to love to write fiction however as I have grown up I have learned to like more and more and enjoy to write about my life and the people and things that happen in it.  I like to write non-fiction now because I want to be able to recall things that I have done with the people I love.  Throughout high school I did many types of writing, from persuasive essays to personal narratives. I am a writer who enjoys writing when given a topic and the topic is something I feel strongly about.  I also am a writer who feels strongly about certain things and will express them through my writing.  My current writing process usually consist of just writing whatever comes to mind, then going back and reading through it to make corrections. Overall I would say I am a writer who likes to express myself and enjoys writing when there is not to many restrictions on what you must write.  I write to express myself.

  1. love the idea that you write to remember--both practically and as a writer of creative nonfiction. I also have moved away from fiction toward nonfiction writing as I've gotten older--I wonder if thts common and why that is?
Your family sounds like quite the bunch! I hope you'll write more about them.
